Born Willian Harrison Clanton in 1862 in Hamilton County, Texas. Of the four Clanton brothers, John, Phin and Ike, Billy was the youngest. Their father, Newton Haynes Clanton, moved the family to California, then to Pima County, Arizona, and finally settled down in Charleston, Arizona in 1867. It was in Charleston where their cattle empire began. Billy Clanton was known as a rancher and a cowboy. Although some would describe him as a gunfighter, he was only in one gunfight, the infamous Gunfight at the OK Corral where he died on October 26, 1881.
